Le président namibien Hage Geingob est décédé dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche à l’âge de 82 ans, a annoncé le vice-président du pays, Nangolo Mbumba.
Hage Geingob a rendu l’âme vers minuit, heure locale, dans un hôpital de la capitale Windhoek, a précisé M. Mbumba.
M. Geingob était président du pays africain depuis 2015. En 1990, il était devenu le premier Premier ministre du pays, un mandat assuré jusqu’en 2002, et à nouveau de 2012 à 2015.
Des élections présidentielles et parlementaires sont prévues en Namibie en novembre prochain.
